Our Story

The story follows Elijah, a first-generation immigrant in South Africa preparing for his baptism encouraged by his homophobic father. Elijah goes on a journey of questioning his sexuality and the religion he grew up with. Fortunately, his best friend is always a step ahead and slips something into his robe before he enters the baptism bath leading to a shock to the Pastor and church. Is this a sign from God?  With everyone except his best friend standing up against him, will Elijah be able to stand up for himself in the face of his persecutors?

Comme Les Garçon was something I conceptualized when thinking about trying to lighten the mood of a potentially dark coming out story. I feel it to be important to be able to tell dark stories of my anxieties and traumas and twist them into a source of please so as to overcome them. The concept evolved from a gay boy trying to expose the hypocrisy of the church to this really cute story about puberty and self acceptance. Feeling misguidedly ashamed of who we are is at the root of a large amount extreme disturbances in psyche rendering us harmful to ourselves and to the world. Overcoming that shame is what Comme Les Garçons is about.
